Get New Beastars Chapter Alerts using IFTTT (Mobile Devices | Email | Text Message) Guide

Get New Beastars Chapter Alerts using IFTTT (Mobile Devices | Email | Text Message) Guide
This is best viewed from a desktop or larger screen. Note: This guide is going to use the English release by /Beastars Discord.

A common question is just how to find the manga or when it is available for reading online. Using a service called IFTTT that connects different triggers to output services, it's pretty simple to set up alerts so that you never miss a new chapter when it comes out!
So many choices! You can use them all, or just one! Give it some thought.
There are many options you can pair off of the RSS trigger, but this tutorial will focus on how to get these alerts via notification on mobile devices, email, or text message. Text messaging will depend on if your carrier supports email->text, however, as IFTTT no longer offers this directly.
Note: If you want multiple forms of notification, you just need to repeat the process with a new applet.
Please: Support the official release as you are able and when it becomes available in your region. Paru Itagaki (the author) has put a ton of work into this fantastic manga, and she deserves to be compensated for it. The official distributor of several of the translations, English foremost, is Viz Media. You can sign up at their website for alerts when new volumes are available.
The only way we get more of this fantastic series is if it gets support and metrics, so please make sure to show official channels some love and thank Paru for her excellent work by purchasing official merchandise!
Some options for getting the manga or otherwise supporting Beastars:
Viz Media: They are the official distributor of the English language manga. Sign up at this site to get alerts when new volumes become available for sale!
Amazon: Amazon sells both Kindle (eBook) and paperback copies. Check your local site to see what's available.
Netflix: The Beastars anime is fantastic too! You can get a free trial to Netflix if you don't have it. The anime is available in multiple languages, internationally. Check the series out!

1. Setting Up an Account with IFTTT

So, the (free) service we'll be using is IFTTT - If This, Then That. See below for links. I would personally suggest implementing these using the desktop website, since it's much easier. However, you can do this on mobile.
The main thing to be aware of here is that if you intend to get text messages or email alerts, you will need to use the appropriate email to sign up for IFTTT, while you can change your email after, it will always be the one used to log into your account on IFTTT. For email->text, please see the relevant section.
IFTTT Login Screen (Desktop)
Every service you trigger with IFTTT carries along some data, known as "Ingredients". You can pick these as required from the menus at the bottom right of the forms, or you can just type them manually. This guide is written such that you can simply copy and paste what you see to get the expected result.
Note: For notifications on your device, it is required to have the app installed.

2. Setting Up the RSS Tracking

Start with "Create Applet".

You can access \"Create\" by clicking the roundel in the top right and opening your account options. Alternatively, on desktop, there is a link \"Create\" in the top right area.
It's a few items down in the dropdown menu you get clicking that roundel. Here \"Create\"
So, the first step that all of these have in common, we need to subscribe to an RSS feed! We'll be using Mangadex for this, as it is the fastest to get the chapter and the chosen release vector for the Beastars sub.

This is the basic screen, before you've selected any options for creating your applet.

In the search box, type \"RSS\" and select the relevant option.
Pick \"New Feed Item Matches\" from the two options. We need this so you don't get an update any time ANY language uploads, just a specific group.
Enter the group name below as the \"Keyword\" (top box) and the Feed URL in ... Feed URL.
Format the keyword as such:
For this tutorial, we will use /Beastars (Hybridgumi) an ENGLISH release. To do this, put:
Group: Hybridgumi
As the keyword. This will mean you get updates whenever the /Beastars translation is available. Note, this will not subscribe you to other release groups, but the principle is the same if you wish to follow them. Make sure to do each as a separate applet, however.
The feed URL is as follows:
Click "Create Trigger" to continue.
Excellent. Now we pick the \"Then\" part! The RSS subscription step is common across all these notifications, so here's where the tutorial diverges.

Option A: Mobile Device Notifications

This is the simplest, basically, you will get a notification (with an option to link it to the new chapter) that will show up on any of your mobile devices (tablets, phones, etc.) where you have the IFTTT application installed. You need to have the IFTTT app installed for this to work. See "Setting up an Account with IFTTT" for links.
Search for \"Notifications\" in the service option, after clicking the \"Then\" + sign
Select \"Send a rich notification from the IFTTT app\"
Fill the fields as such:
New Beastars Chapter!
{{EntryTitle}} released.
Link URL (Leave this blank if you just want a basic notification, add it if you want to be able to open the chapter from the notification):
Click "Create action."
The notification will look something like this. You can add an image URL too, but I haven't tried that.

Make sure to give it a descriptive title! This helps find it later if you need to make changes. Click \"Finish\", let it connect, and you're good to go!

Option B: Receive an Email

I like this one the most, because you can decorate it a bit. Very simple. See below for code you can put in the body to format the email to taste.
Search \"Email\" and pick the basic option \"Email\". We don't want a digest.
Only one option. Go ahead, click it!
See below for more info about the fields to fill out.
For the Subject field:
For anything in the Body field, pick one of these options. Note: If you want to get your updates as a text message, continue to Option C now. Ignore the below information.
For a basic email that is just a link to the latest chapter, fill the "Body" portion with:
Read {{EntryTitle}} on Mangadex!
This will display as (note: example link only):
Read Beastars Ch. 100 on MangaDex!
For a decorative email with a link to the latest chapter, fill the "Body" portion with:

This will display the following, as an example, when you get the email:

Click \"Create Action\". Give it a descriptive title, click \"Finish\" and you're done!

Option C: Get a Text Message with a Link

So, this one will require a bit of Googling on your end. IFTTT doesn't *directly* support sending text messages. However, many cellular providers do allow you to send email to a specially formatted address based on your phone number, which you will receive as a text message.
Note: You must have your IFTTT email set to this address to use the email service and send it here.
This service may need to be activated in advance and may come with a price. So check that first.
Firstly, follow the steps in Option B.
For my (fake) special email, I would use: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), as that is my cellular carrier's email (Freedom Mobile), with my "phone" number. But this is not a universal format, so you NEED to check this for yourself! If you don't know about this service, hit up your cell phone carrier on social media or via support and they can explain it to you. Just mention you want to use "Email to Text message", and ask how it's done.
Unfortunately, email to text is very basic and will not support much special formatting, so the message we need to send to it is very basic. Put the highlighted entry in the "Body" Field.
Read {{EntryTitle}} on Mangadex: {{EntryUrl}}
Which would look roughly like:
Read Beastars Ch.100 on Mangadex! http://www.mangadex.com/manga/beastars/ch100.html
Note: That link is not actually formatted right. It will be if you copy and paste the highlighted code, however.

Final Thoughts

It's nice we can get translated manga, quickly after it releases in Japan. However, the author doesn't receive compensation for this - so please be considerate of the amount of work and effort Paru has put into creating this wonderful series for us. Try to support this excellent series and its creator by buying official merchandise as it becomes available. Some suggested places to get things like the manga or view the Netflix anime are included at the top of this post. Creators gotta eat too!
Anyway, provided you implemented this properly, you should get the appropriate alerts the next publish after you set the app to live! Note: This isn't retroactive, so to confirm it's well and working, you'll have to wait until the next release AFTER you've implemented this.

MAME 0.221

MAME 0.221

Our fourth release of the year, MAME 0.221, is now ready. There are lots of interesting changes this time. We’ll start with some of the additions. There’s another load of TV games from JAKKS Pacific, Senario, Tech2Go and others. We’ve added another Panorama Screen Game & Watch title: this one features the lovable comic strip canine Snoopy. On the arcade side, we’ve got Great Bishi Bashi Champ and Anime Champ (both from Konami), Goori Goori (Unico), the prototype Galun.Pa! (Capcom CPS), a censored German version of Gun.Smoke, a Japanese location test version of DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou, and more bootlegs of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Final Fight, Galaxian, Pang! 3 and Warriors of Fate.
In computer emulation, we’re proud to present another working UNIX workstation: the MIPS R3000 version of Sony’s NEWS family. NEWS was never widespread outside Japan, so it’s very exciting to see this running. F.Ulivi has added support for the Swedish/Finnish and German versions of the HP 86B, and added two service ROMs to the software list. ICEknight contributed a cassette software list for the Timex NTSC variants of the Sinclair home computers. There are some nice emulation improvements for the Luxor ABC family of computers, with the ABC 802 now considered working.
Other additions include discrete audio emulation for Midway’s Gun Fight, voice output for Filetto, support for configurable Toshiba Pasopia PAC2 slot devices, more vgmplay features, and lots more Capcom CPS mappers implemented according to equations from dumped PALs. This release also cleans up and simplifies ROM loading. For the most part things should work as well as or better than they did before, but MAME will no longer find loose CHD files in top-level media directories. This is intentional – it’s unwieldy with the number of supported systems.
As usual, you can get the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages from the download page. This will be the last month where we use this format for the release notes – with the increase in monthly development activity, it’s becoming impractical to keep up.
